Our Mission
NexfinityNews is committed to producing accurate, fair, and independent journalism that serves the public interest. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of journalistic integrity, transparency, and accountability. Our coverage focuses on investigative journalism, veteran affairs, government accountability, and underreported stories that impact American communities.
Core Principles
1. Accuracy
Accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish. We are committed to:
- Verification: Every factual claim must be verified through multiple reliable sources before publication
- Primary Sources: We prioritize original documents, data, and firsthand accounts whenever possible
- Expert Consultation: Complex technical, legal, or specialized topics require consultation with qualified experts
- Context: Facts must be presented with appropriate context to ensure readers understand their significance
- Transparency: When information cannot be independently verified, we clearly label it as unverified or attributed to a specific source
2. Independence
Our journalism is independent of political, commercial, or personal interests:
- Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are made solely on journalistic merit, free from outside influence
- No Pay-for-Play: We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage
- Conflict Disclosure: All potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed to editors and, when relevant, to readers
- Separation of Business and Editorial: Business considerations do not influence editorial content
- Source Independence: We maintain independence from our sources and do not allow sources to review stories before publication (except for accuracy verification of direct quotes)
3. Fairness and Balance
We strive to report all sides of controversial issues fairly:
- Multiple Perspectives: Stories involving disputes, allegations, or controversy must include meaningful attempts to reach all relevant parties
- Right of Response: Individuals or organizations criticized in our reporting are given reasonable opportunity to respond before publication
- Proportional Coverage: Coverage reflects the weight of evidence and credible viewpoints, not false equivalence
- Avoiding Bias: Personal opinions, political beliefs, or ideological preferences do not influence news reporting
- Fair Representation: We avoid stereotypes and ensure diverse voices are represented in our coverage
4. Transparency
We are open about our methods, sources, and decision-making:
- Source Attribution: We identify sources whenever possible; anonymous sourcing requires editor approval
- Methodology Disclosure: Investigative pieces explain how information was obtained and verified
- Corrections: Errors are corrected promptly, clearly, and completely (see Corrections Policy)
- Public Accountability: Readers can contact our editorial team with questions, concerns, or corrections
- Funding Disclosure: We are transparent about our funding sources and business relationships
5. Integrity
We conduct ourselves with honesty and ethical behavior:
- No Plagiarism: All work must be original; quoted or paraphrased material requires proper attribution
- No Fabrication: We never invent quotes, sources, scenes, or facts
- Protecting Sources: We honor confidentiality agreements with sources
- Professional Conduct: Staff maintain professional relationships with sources and subjects
- Accountability: We take responsibility for our journalism and acknowledge mistakes
Editorial Process
Story Selection
Stories are selected based on:
- Public interest and impact
- Newsworthiness and timeliness
- Ability to verify facts independently
- Relevance to our coverage areas
- Availability of credible sources
Reporting Standards
Minimum Source Requirements:
- Breaking News: At least two independent sources confirming key facts
- Investigative Stories: Three or more independent sources for major allegations
- Data-Driven Stories: Direct access to underlying data; methodology must be sound
- Profile/Feature Stories: Firsthand interviews and primary source documents
Anonymous Sources:
- Used only when essential to the story
- Require editor approval before commitment
- Must have direct knowledge of the information
- At least one editor must know the source’s identity
- Anonymous sources cannot be the sole basis for allegations or major claims
Document Verification:
- Documents must be authenticated before use
- We verify the provenance and legitimacy of leaked or provided documents
- When possible, we obtain original documents rather than copies
- Document-based stories require corroboration from other sources
Fact-Checking Process
All stories undergo multi-level review:
- Reporter Self-Check: Reporters verify all facts and maintain documentation of sources
- Editorial Review: Editors verify key facts, check source credibility, and assess story balance
- Senior Editorial Review: Investigative pieces and sensitive stories receive additional review
- Legal Review: Stories with potential legal implications reviewed by legal counsel (when necessary)
- Pre-Publication Check: Final review of names, titles, dates, numbers, and quotes
Sensitive Topics
Stories involving the following require heightened scrutiny:
- Allegations of Criminal Conduct: Require strong sourcing, documentation, and right of response
- National Security: Balanced against public interest; we do not publish information that poses imminent danger
- Victims of Trauma: Treated with sensitivity; consent obtained for use of names/details
- Minors: Protected unless there is compelling public interest
- Medical/Health Information: Verified with medical professionals; avoid sensationalism
- Suicide: Covered responsibly following industry guidelines; avoid detailed methods
Attribution and Sourcing
On-the-Record Attribution
Default position: Sources are identified by full name and relevant credentials/affiliation.
Background Attribution
Used sparingly when:
- Source has direct knowledge but faces professional risk
- Information aids public understanding
- Source’s identity is irrelevant to the story
Attribution examples:
- “A senior Defense Department official said…”
- “According to documents reviewed by NexfinityNews…”
- “Three veterans who served in the unit told NexfinityNews…”
Off-the-Record Information
- Used only to guide reporting, never for publication
- Requires explicit agreement before conversation
- Reporters must clarify terms with sources (off-record vs. background vs. not-for-attribution)
Quotations
- Direct quotes must be verbatim
- Minor grammatical corrections permitted only for clarity; must not change meaning
- Ellipses and brackets used to indicate changes
- Quotes are not created or reconstructed from memory
- Substantive quotes are read back to sources for accuracy verification
Conflicts of Interest
Personal Conflicts
Staff must disclose:
- Financial interests in subjects they cover
- Personal relationships with sources or subjects
- Political activities or affiliations
- Other employment or business interests
- Prior professional relationships relevant to coverage
Organizational Conflicts
NexfinityNews discloses:
- Ownership structure
- Funding sources
- Business partnerships
- Advertising relationships that could influence coverage
Managing Conflicts
- Disclosed conflicts are evaluated by senior editors
- Staff are reassigned when conflicts cannot be managed
- Relevant conflicts are disclosed in published stories
Use of Anonymous Sources
Anonymous sources are permitted only when:
- The information is essential to the story and serves the public interest
- The information cannot be obtained on the record
- The source faces genuine risk (professional, legal, or personal safety)
- At least one editor knows the source’s identity
- The source has direct, firsthand knowledge of the information
- We can independently verify key facts from other sources or documents
Required Disclosures:
- Why the source requires anonymity
- The source’s general relationship to the information
- Any potential biases or motivations the source may have
Prohibited Uses:
- Anonymous sources may not be used for personal attacks
- Single anonymous sources cannot be the sole basis for major allegations
- Anonymous sources must be substantive; we do not grant anonymity for routine information
Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to:
- Seeking diverse sources across race, ethnicity, gender, age, geography, and perspective
- Avoiding stereotypes and assumptions in our reporting
- Reflecting the diversity of communities in our coverage
- Ensuring underrepresented voices are heard
- Providing context around issues affecting marginalized communities
Separation of News and Opinion
News Reporting:
- Presents facts without editorial judgment
- Maintains strict neutrality on controversial topics
- Sources provide opinions; reporters do not inject their own
Analysis:
- Clearly labeled as “Analysis” or “News Analysis”
- Based on reporting and expertise
- Distinguishes between fact and interpretation
Opinion/Commentary:
- Clearly labeled as “Opinion,” “Commentary,” or “Editorial”
- Reflects author’s or publication’s viewpoint
- Still subject to accuracy and fairness standards
- Facts in opinion pieces must be verified
Photography and Visual Content
Photo Standards
- Photos must not be manipulated to misrepresent reality
- Technical adjustments (cropping, color correction) permitted if they don’t alter meaning
- Staged or reenacted photos clearly labeled
- Photo captions must be accurate and verified
Video Standards
- Video must not be edited to misrepresent events
- Editing for time/clarity acceptable if context preserved
- Clearly label reenactments, dramatizations, or composite sequences

- Verify authenticity before use
- Ensure proper licensing and permissions

- Allow sources to review stories before publication (except fact-checking of direct quotes)
